PREMIERE: Andrea von Kampen’s Hard Times Come Again No More reminds us that better times are ahead, through reassurance we persevere.

Andrea von Kampen - Hard Times Come Again No More

Molto Bella, or accurately translated by Google, Very Nice or Beautiful is the title of an upcoming feature film by director/writer, Alexander Jeffery, set in Taormina, Sicily which depicts an aspiring poet who befriends a successful songwriter. Sounds like a great movie date night, right? The film starring Jason Edwards and Paul T.O. Petersen also stars Nebraska singer/songwriter, Andrea von Kampen.

For those not familiar with her, she’s been featured on NPR and shared the stage with such acts as Trampled By Turtles and Mandolin Orange. A string of successful singles and album releases precede her latest exciting venture. Andrea von Kampen has recorded a gem for the upcoming film’s soundtrack. Hard Times Come Again No More is a retrospective of the great gospel and folk songs that steered the Americana genre to the success and institution that it is today.

Andrea von Kampen and her band of Nebraska-based musicians created a song that will forever coincide with the film and its release as well as further the reach of genuine Americana music. Andrea’s voice and delivery on the single is round, soothing, reassuring and honest. She’s as comfortable in her falsetto as she is in full-voice on the recording and gravitates back and forth between the two with the best of them.

Hard Times Come Again No More is an acoustic-based tune stylistically speaking. Warm, fingerstyle guitar leads us through the song’s circular chord structure as other stringed accompaniments and a mandolin sneak their way into the mix. The song is short, over too soon maybe, regardless, a real triumph for lovers of the genre. It’s as poetic as any great Dylan masterpiece, incredibly poignant like an old family favorite that may still be with us from the hardscrabble years.

More importantly, through its message, Hard Times Come Again No More reminds us that better times are ahead, through reassurance we persevere. Looking forward to a successful film and song release. Put this one on your “to do” list, no mask required.
