Brighton alt-pop trio CIEL shimmer with the release of their new single ‘Pretty Face.' Thumping drums and sauntering guitar lines coalesce with Michelle Hindriks' mignon vocals but beneath the pluckiness rests a darker tale. CIEL contrast pop propulsion with the story of a man who lost his wife to a cult.
Hindriks gives insight to the track's harrowing lyrics: “I really got into watching documentaries about all sorts of cults during lockdown 2.0 – the psychology behind it really fascinates me. This one story really struck me, about this man that lost his wife to a cult, and now ten years later continuing life, knowing that she’s still somewhere out there – having to let go of her. Whereas most people probably can’t directly relate to something as extreme as losing someone to a cult, a lot more people can relate to the experience of choosing to care for themselves, even if that is a very tough decision”
‘Pretty Face' is out now on all digital platforms.

There’s something so haunting about dark lyrics set to a sweet bright sound like this. Great single.

Awesome track!
Added to my spotify. Great track.
A very nice melody, and such a sweet delivery! Amazing mixture.
Great tune. The feel of the vocal is very ’90s and it meshes really well with the angular new wave guitars.
This song is what I imagine would be playing on the drive over to the castle in Rocky Horror.
Love this and the whole vibes. Great, sad and haunting indeed.
Great band – loving their infectious hooks. Baby Don’t You Know beats even this track for earworming.
Happy, Sad song … beautiful voice. Love it
