Taking the lead from its title, ‘Heavier Things’ is 4 minutes and 3 seconds of exhilarating rock, which certainly pulls no punches.

Some songs have a way of slapping you in the face the first time you hear them, giving you a rush and making you feel invigorated.  If that is the case, then ‘Heavier Things’ by My Everest slaps you in the face, knocks you off your feet and then gives you a kicking while you’re on the ground.

Taking the lead from its title, ‘Heavier Things’ is 4 minutes and 3 seconds of exhilarating rock, which certainly pulls no punches.  It’s rare that a band is able to capture the amount of energy and intensity on a recording that My Everest have on this track, leaving me wondering what their live shows are like.   The heavy guitar riffs and impressive drumming really drive the song and the pace barely lets up.

Heavier Things lyric video

On the first listen, I was completely distracted by the energy and wall of noise throughout the track.  However, on subsequent listens, I was more able to pick out the different elements on the track: the excellent guitar work, the heavy bass lines, the keys adding depth and (I’ve resisted the temptation until now to say this) the prescription for my fever… more cowbell!

The vocals throughout are strong and suit the song’s rocky style.  Lyrically, the song vents frustration at how things change around us even when we don’t want them to – wondering if we should move with the majority because it’s what’s expected.  The band claim that the song wasn’t intended to be a political song but the tone of it certainly fits in with the current political climate (especially in the band’s native UK).

My Everest’s debut single (released earlier this year) got them some notable attention and airplay from the BBC.  ‘Heavier Things’ looks set to thrust them further into the limelight.  If you like to watch rock bands in small clubs, my advice would be to check them out soon.  On this example, they may be moving on to bigger things very soon.

  • Really enjoyed this track. The intro is immense and the vocal lives up to the heavy guitars opening. You can really imagine this one being played on the main stage at somewhere like Download festival, the crowd would definitely be getting into it

  • Fantastic review that made me check out a new brand and track I hadn’t come across before! Definitively earned the band as well as your site a new fan and follower. Great work!
